So... I always have room for one more foster when it's a senior and the lab rescue that I love to foster for got a call on an 11 year old lab who was going to be put to sleep simply because she was old and it was 'her time'. They've had her since she was 5 weeks old. Her name is Natalie and she got here on Thursday night. We've had some challenges. First, she's not a lab at all. All of her paperwork shows that she's a pittie....a purebred pittie... but since those rescues are harder to find, I guess the owners thought it would make more sense to call her a lab so the lab rescue would take her. I don't discriminate by breed, but I do like to know what I'm getting because every breed has their challenges. She is spayed and up to date on her shots and in great health and about 45 pounds. It's pretty clear that Natalie lived outside in her previous home. I know this because she can NOT be confined to a crate or small room. I've never seen a senior dog bust out of two styles of crates in such a short period of time...not to run away... just to be 'free'. Then she opened the patio doors on her own to get out to the dog yard (Luckily it was fenced). So we've spent the weekend adjusting to her needs. She can be loose inside my shop. I just don't like to do that overnight because it makes the other dogs all anxious when one is loose.. So, she sleeps outside in the dog yard, on her fluffy bed with a blanket. She's happy as a clam that way and it's only temporary until I can figure out something else. She loves playing fetch with a ball and brings it back to you over and over. She gets along great with other animals and kids. She's scheduled to go to a small all-breed rescue next weekend who was gracious enough to take her, but does not have a home lined up. I'm hoping there is someone out there who is home alot, has a fenced in yard and would love to add a sweet senior girl to their family. ... See more
